Even the N/A setups need love too, the general consensus is that N/A vehicles (naturally aspirated) are not covered with tuning, but that is far from the truth, Its true that they wont make as much power as the turbo setups, but extracting more power and creating a better power band without the flat spots is possible!
This 330i E46 was no exception, it was possible to extract the current software via the OBD port using CMD so that I could get to work and see what was possible compared to the current tune state.
Basic session and sometimes can be more troublesome then the turbo models, as finding the best balance of fuel and timing is always the aim with the NA setups, so they can take a little longer to fine tune.
General NA setups benefit from adjusted timing tables which will extract more torque based on the fuel quality, as they are setup for emissions and driveability for road use, with an aggressive timing table they can be alot more useful out on the track with around 20-30nm more torque in the midrange and a higher rpm limit, they can feel completely different to drive!
Track tuning is always different to road tuning, as on the track you need to have a good balance to allow the car to be at full revs for long periods of time compared to road tuning which is always a mix, so changing the target AFR (air fuel ratio) can aid with the EGT to keep the engine alot happier and allow more torque to be extracted in the timing tables.
If you have a NA or Turbo car and would like it setup for purpose, then give me a shout, with our 4wd dyno setup, we arnt limited by drive train or vehicle height, we are purpose built for race setups!
